The dollar and oil prices declined amid signs of easing Middle East tensions while traders adjusted expectations for future Federal Reserve interest rate moves.
Global equity markets pared gains on Tuesday as investors in the United States shifted focus toward upcoming inflation data. MSCI's global equities gauge rose 0.29% to 1,104.19, retreating from an earlier intraday peak of more than 1% as the S&P 500's heavyweight technology sector failed to sustain its morning gains. This cautious turn reflects growing anxiety that persistent price pressures could force the Federal Reserve to consider further interest rate hikes.
### Inflation Anxiety Cools Equity Momentum Equity sentiment soured during the midday session as the heavyweight technology sector lost its early momentum, dragging the benchmark index lower. The S&P 500 fell 0.22% to 7,389.09, while the Nasdaq Composite dropped 0.69% to 25,750.59. Cetera Chief Investment Officer Gene Goldman noted that market participants are bracing for May consumer inflation data due on Wednesday.
