Global registrations in the electric vehicle (EV) market fell by 3 percent year-on-year in January, totaling almost 1.2 million units as significant policy shifts in the world’s largest economies weighed on demand. According to data released by Benchmark Mineral Intelligence on February 13, 2026, the decline was primarily driven by steep contractions in China CNCN and North America, a trend that is expected to reduce near-term sales volumes for automakers across the automotive sector.
