Airlines Cut 2026 Profit Forecast on Middle East Conflict
The International Air Transport Association reduced its 2026 industry profit outlook from 41 billion to 23 billion dollars due to rising jet fuel prices and regional airspace disruptions. Higher operating costs and rerouted flights are expected to keep airfares elevated while squeezing margins for carriers worldwide.
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) slashed its 2026 global airline profit forecast to $23 billion, a 44% drop from its previous $41 billion projection, on Sunday afternoon. This revised outlook follows a fuel price shock and regional airspace closures triggered by the conflict in Iran. The downgrade highlights the sector's vulnerability to geopolitical volatility despite record revenues and resilient passenger demand.
