Glendon Capital Questions Blue Owl Portfolio Valuations
Glendon Capital claims Blue Owl is understating private credit losses. This comes as the two trillion dollar market faces scrutiny over loan valuations.
Glendon Capital Management has raised concerns regarding the valuation of private credit portfolios, specifically alleging that firms such as Blue Owl Capital Inc. are obscuring underlying weaknesses in their debt holdings. According to a report by the Financial Times, Glendon warned that a sharp correction in debt markets is approaching as lenders potentially misrepresent the health of their assets.

The investment fund claimed in a presentation that private credit vehicles managed by Blue Owl and several of its industry rivals have misrepresented loss rates and are sitting on larger losses than those officially reported. While Reuters could not immediately verify these claims, the report has intensified scrutiny of the approximately $2 trillion private credit market. Investors are increasingly questioning the resilience of borrowers and the accuracy of loan valuations in a sustained high-interest-rate environment.
The sector has faced a series of challenges in recent months, prompting defensive actions from major financial institutions. Morgan Stanley recently moved to limit redemptions at one of its private credit funds, while JPMorgan Chase & Co. has reportedly reduced the value of certain loans associated with private credit funds. Blue Owl did not immediately respond to requests for comment, and Glendon could not be reached for further clarification following the report.
