Germany's Economic Growth Remains Stagnant as Research Institutes Downgrade Forecasts Despite Planned Fiscal Expansion

German growth forecasts slashed; fiscal stimulus expected to have limited impact.

Multiple leading German economic research institutes have significantly downgraded their growth forecasts for Europe's largest economy, warning that the country remains trapped in a pattern of minimal expansion despite upcoming fiscal stimulus measures. The assessments paint a sobering picture of structural challenges that cannot be easily overcome through government spending alone.
The IFO Institute for Economic Research has revised its growth projections downward across the board for 2025-2027. The institute now expects GermanyDEDE to grow by just 0.1% in 2025, down from a previous forecast of 0.2%. Growth projections for 2026 and 2027 were also cut by 0.5 percentage points each, to 0.8% and 1.1% respectively.
