Aurelius Explores Acquisition of Carrefour Belgium Unit
German fund Aurelius is considering a bid for Carrefour's Belgian operations. The retailer is focusing on its primary markets in France, Spain, and Brazil.
The German private equity fund Aurelius has reportedly expressed interest in acquiring the Belgian operations of the retail giant Carrefour S.A.. According to a report by the Brussels-based newspaper L'Echo, Germany-based Aurelius is among a small group of potential buyers looking into the unit.

The retail operations in Belgium have maintained annual revenues of approximately 4 billion euros, or roughly $4.64 billion, over the last several years. While other parties are reportedly considering bids, the pool of interested buyers remains limited.
This potential divestment follows a strategic shift by the parent company, which is headquartered in France. The retailer recently announced its intention to concentrate resources on its three primary markets: its home country, Spain, and Brazil.
As part of this ongoing restructuring, the company has already moved to sell its business units in Italy and Romania. At the time of the report, both the retail group and the private equity firm declined to provide immediate comments regarding the potential transaction.
