German Regulator Clears Rheinmetall and OHB Partnership
The German cartel office approved a joint venture between Rheinmetall and OHB for military satellite procurement. The firms will manage separate segments.
The federal competition regulator in Germany has officially granted permission for a strategic partnership between a subsidiary of RHEINMETALL AG and the satellite technology firm OHB SE. The decision, announced on Thursday, clears the way for the two companies to establish a joint venture aimed at securing and managing future procurement contracts for the national armed forces.
Under the terms of the agreement, Rheinmetall Digital will focus its expertise on the user and network segments of the operations. Meanwhile, OHB is slated to manage the critical space and ground segments of the satellite infrastructure. This division of labor leverages the specific industrial strengths of both entities to meet the complex requirements of defense communications.

The German cartel office reviewed the proposal to ensure it did not violate antitrust regulations. Andreas Mundt, the president of the office, noted that the two companies primarily operate in distinct sectors, which mitigates potential market dominance issues.
There are no competition concerns regarding the establishment of the joint venture.
