FTSE 100 gains as energy stocks track rising oil prices
The FTSE 100 rose 0.29 percent on Thursday as energy and mining stocks gained amid rising commodity prices. Intertek shares jumped after rejecting a buyout.
Equity markets in the United Kingdom finished Thursday's session in positive territory, propelled primarily by a surge in energy and mining shares. The blue-chip FTSE 100 index climbed 0.29% to close at 10,589.99 points, while the midcap FTSE 250 index saw a more robust gain of 0.5%.
The rally was underpinned by rising energy costs as geopolitical uncertainty persists. Brent Crude Oil advanced by more than 3%, providing a significant tailwind for industry giants. BP PLC saw its shares jump 3.9%, while SHELL PLC added 1.2%. Market sentiment was heavily influenced by diplomatic developments involving Iran, following discussions held in Pakistan.
