France's Finance Minister Roland Lescure has dismissed calls for tax cuts or fuel subsidies as a response to the energy price shock triggered by the conflict in Iran. Addressing lawmakers on Tuesday, Lescure warned that such measures risk further fueling inflation rather than addressing the root cause of supply constraints.
When supply is constrained, supporting demand through subsidies or tax cuts does not act on the availability of supplies and ultimately only amplifies inflation.
