Consumer sentiment in France experienced a significant downturn in April, marking the most substantial decline since the outbreak of the conflict in Ukraine in early 2022. According to data released by the official statistics agency INSEE on Friday, the consumer confidence index plummeted to 84 points, down from 89 points recorded in March. This figure fell notably short of market expectations, as a Reuters poll of 15 economists had predicted a more modest reading of 88 points.
