France announces targeted aid for rising energy costs
France will introduce targeted aid for sectors like trucking and fisheries to manage energy price spikes. A G7 meeting is set for Monday to discuss the crisis.
The government of France is preparing to announce a series of targeted measures in the coming days to address the surge in energy prices linked to the conflict in Iran. Finance Minister Roland Lescure stated on Thursday that the administration is focusing on support for sectors hit hardest by rising costs, specifically mentioning trucking companies and fisheries that are struggling to meet their energy obligations.

In an interview with the broadcaster RTL, Lescure noted that while some preliminary steps have already been taken, further action is required to support those with high fuel consumption. He emphasized that the new measures would be applied in a targeted manner to ensure they reach those most in need.
"In the next few days we will be able to announce new measures,"
Lescure highlighted that the government is specifically evaluating the situation for high-mileage drivers who are facing significant financial pressure.
"We have already taken steps for those, we are looking at what we call high-mileage drivers, but we will do so again in a targeted manner."
On an international level, Lescure has called for a meeting on Monday with G7 finance ministers, energy ministers, and central bankers. The meeting is intended to discuss the current energy price volatility and coordinate potential responses among the world's leading economies.
