FCC seeks review of foreign investment in Warner Bros deal
FCC Commissioner Anna Gomez called for a rigorous review of foreign ownership in the proposed Paramount-Warner Bros. Discovery merger. She warned that investments from Middle Eastern sovereign wealth funds could impact national security and control over major news outlets.
FCC Commissioner Anna Gomez called for a rigorous review of foreign investment in the PARAMOUNT SKYDANCE CL B acquisition of WARNER BROS DISCOVERY INC. Paramount Skydance requested FCC approval last month for foreign capital to back the media merger. Regulatory scrutiny of sovereign wealth funding could delay or block the consolidation of major U.S. news operations.
Gomez stated on Tuesday afternoon that foreign ownership interests raise unresolved questions regarding national security. She argued the commission has a legal obligation to investigate how these funds might influence domestic broadcasting.
