Families of victims from a mass shooting in Canada sued OpenAI and CEO Sam Altman in the United States on Wednesday. The lawsuits allege OpenAI identified the shooter as a credible threat eight months before the February attack but withheld information from police to protect a potential $1 trillion IPO. This litigation represents the first U.S. legal challenge to claim an AI platform facilitated a mass shooting.
