European Union and Turkey pledge to update customs union and expand economic ties
European and Turkish officials met in Ankara today to discuss updating their customs union. They also welcomed the return of European Investment Bank projects.
European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos marta kos and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan hakan fidan announced on February 6, 2026, that they have agreed to continue work toward modernizing the EU-Turkey Customs Union. This policy-driven effort aims to improve the implementation of the trade framework to support competitiveness, economic security, and resilience for both the European Union and Turkey
