European Markets Gain on Hopes for Iran De-escalation
European shares rose on Tuesday as investors hoped for a de-escalation in the Iran conflict. Oil prices remained on track for a record monthly increase.
European equity markets recorded marginal gains on Tuesday morning as traders reacted to reports suggesting a potential de-escalation in the conflict between Iran and the United States. Despite the intraday uptick, the STOXX 600 index is poised to conclude its worst monthly performance since 2022, ending a streak of eight consecutive monthly gains.
The geopolitical landscape remains tense following an attack on a fully-loaded oil tanker near Dubai. This incident occurred shortly after warnings from the American presidency regarding potential strikes on energy infrastructure if the Strait of Hormuz remained closed. The conflict, which involved coordinated military actions by the American government and Israel beginning in late February, has caused significant volatility across global asset classes.
