European shares climb to one-month high on peace talks
European shares hit a one-month high on Tuesday as Middle East peace hopes emerged. While tech stocks rose, luxury brands warned of conflict-related impacts.
European equities surged to their highest intraday levels in over a month on Tuesday as investors reacted positively to emerging signs of diplomatic progress in the Middle East. Despite cautionary statements from several major corporations regarding the financial impact of regional conflict, the broader market sentiment remained bullish throughout the morning session.
The pan-European index gained 0.8% to reach 618.85 points, its strongest intraday performance since March 3. This upward momentum was largely attributed to reports that negotiating teams from the United States and Iran could return to Islamabad, Pakistan, for further discussions. While previous meetings ended without a definitive breakthrough, the prospect of renewed dialogue encouraged a rebound in equity markets and led to a cooling of energy prices. Consequently, Brent Crude Oil retreated to trade below $100 per barrel, causing the European energy sector to edge 0.1% lower.
