European Banks Seek Simpler Rules for 1.4 Trillion Gap
The European Banking Federation reports that the region faces a widening 1.4 trillion euro annual investment gap for energy and defense. Lenders are calling for regulatory simplification and capital requirement adjustments to help finance 20% of these additional funding needs.
The European Banking Federation reported on Tuesday that Europe faces a €1.4 trillion annual investment gap to meet energy and defense goals. This figure rose from earlier estimates of €800 billion in 2024 and €1.2 trillion in 2025. The EBF warns that current regulatory frameworks constrain the private capital needed to fund regional industrial capacity.
