EU foreign ministers designate the IRGC as a terrorist group and expand sanctions on Iran

The European Union designated the IRGC as a terrorist group after a brutal crackdown in Iran. This policy shift includes new sanctions and export controls.

European Union EUEU foreign ministers on Thursday reached a landmark agreement to include the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on the EUEU list of terrorist organisations. This significant development formalises a structural shift in how European capitals approach the leadership in Iran IRIRand puts the IRGC in a category similar to other designated terrorist groups. The move follows a recent large-scale crackdown on a nationwide protest movement in IRIR earlier this month that killed thousands and significantly changed political momentum across the continent.
