The European Commission has maintained its stance against suspending the European Union's carbon dioxide emissions levy on imported fertilisers, despite renewed calls from France and other member states to assist farmers struggling with rising expenses. During a meeting of agriculture ministers in Brussels, EU Agriculture Commissioner Christophe Hansen acknowledged that high fertiliser prices are a significant concern for the sector, but he cautioned that pausing the levy could deepen the bloc's reliance on external suppliers.
And therefore we must be very careful on this issue.
