EU Urges US to View Bloc as Ally in Overcapacity Fight
The EU urged the US on Thursday to treat it as a partner in tackling global overcapacity. Officials said the bloc is not a source of trade distortions.
The European Union has urged the United States to view the bloc as a strategic partner in the global effort to tackle manufacturing overcapacity rather than a source of the problem. This appeal follows the American administration's recent launch of investigations into the trade practices of the union and 15 other international trading partners.

A spokesperson for the European Commission stated that while the EU shares concerns regarding structural overcapacity in the global economy, the root sources of such issues do not lie within Europe. The Commission highlighted that the EU operates as a market-driven economy defined by open markets and transparent policy frameworks.
The EU does not consider itself a contributor to structural excess capacity, but rather a partner in addressing global distortions.
The Commission maintains that its economic structure is fundamentally distinct from the factors causing global trade distortions. By calling for a partnership, the EU aims to align with the United States in addressing systemic issues in the global marketplace.
