Investors directed a record $22.3 billion in private credit toward emerging markets last year, according to data released on Wednesday by the Global Private Capital Association (GPCA). This surge represents a nearly 40% increase over the previous record set in 2016, highlighting a significant pivot as returns on Western projects tighten and traditional bank lending becomes more restrictive.
