Elliott Takes Multibillion Dollar Stake in Synopsys
Elliott Investment Management has built a multibillion-dollar stake in Synopsys. The activist investor plans to push for improved margins and AI growth.
Activist investor Elliott Investment Management has reportedly built a multibillion-dollar position in Synopsys, Inc., according to a report from the Wall Street Journal. The investment firm, which is based in the United States, intends to engage with the company to drive higher returns from its software and services operations.

Jesse Cohn, Managing Partner at Elliott, suggested that the company's current financial results do not fully reflect its market importance.
"There is a clear opportunity for Synopsys’ financial performance to more fully reflect the value it delivers," Cohn told the Journal.
"As AI drives a step change in chip complexity and capital investment, Synopsys is uniquely positioned to benefit from this growth," he added.
Synopsys is currently valued at more than $80 billion and serves as a critical provider of software used to design complex semiconductors. Its tools are utilized by industry leaders such as Advanced Micro Devices and NVIDIA Corporation, the latter of which invested $2 billion in Synopsys last year.
In a statement provided to Reuters, the company noted its openness to shareholder communication.
"Synopsys Board of Directors and management team regularly engage with our shareholders on a range of issues and value their input," the company stated.
Elliott reportedly believes there is significant potential for Synopsys to increase its sales and improve profit margins to better align with its closest competitor, Cadence Design Systems.
