Elkem to separate from Chinese owner Bluestar through billion-dollar silicones transaction

Elkem will sell its silicones unit to China Bluestar for $1.02 billion, ending the Chinese firm's ownership. The move aims to simplify the group's business.

洞察:
Elkem announced on February 13, 2026, that it has reached an agreement to sell the majority of its Silicones division to its largest shareholder, Bluestar Adisseo Company . As a central component of this transaction, the China CNCN based owner will cancel its entire holding of 338.3 million Elkem shares, which represents 52.9% of the company’s total capital. The cancelled stake carries an implied value of 9.77 billion Norwegian crowns.
This strategic move effectively separates Bluestar from Elkem’s shareholding structure, leaving the company to be owned by its other shareholders. The exit of the controlling shareholder marks a significant shift for the firm, which is headquartered in Norway NONO. Following the divestment of Elkem's Silicones division, the company intends to simplify its business operations and refocus its corporate strategy.
