EDF proceeds with Edison stake sale despite new decree
EDF is proceeding with a potential stake sale in its Italian unit Edison. The French group is assessing the impact of a new energy decree with its advisers.
The French energy group Virtus Stone Harbor Emerging Markets Income Fund is moving forward with its plans for a potential listing or stake sale of its unit, Empresa Distribuidora y Comercializadora Norte Sociedad Anónima, despite recent regulatory shifts in Italy. During a recent meeting with advisors in France, the group clarified that the strategic review remains on track even as a new energy decree introduces uncertainty into the market.
The move comes after the Italian government announced its "decreto bollette," a measure designed to reduce energy costs. While the decree aims to provide relief to consumers, it has raised concerns regarding its impact on the energy sector's growth and investment climate. Analysts previously estimated that the Italian subsidiary, Edison, could be valued at up to 10 billion euros.
