EasyJet expects late summer ticket price increases

EasyJet warns ticket prices will rise late this summer as fuel hedges expire. The airline has 62% of its fuel needs hedged for the second half of 2026.

The chief executive of easyJet plc has warned that travelers in Europe should prepare for an increase in ticket prices as the ongoing conflict in Iran begins to impact operational costs. Kenton Jarvis, the airline's CEO, noted that the effects on pricing are expected to manifest toward the end of the summer season, coinciding with the expiration of current fuel price protections.

The announcement was made during the opening of a new base for the airline at Newcastle Airport in the United Kingdom. Jarvis explained that while the company has strategies in place to manage fuel volatility, the long-term outlook for consumers remains tied to market fluctuations.

The reality is that prices will start feeding through to the consumer towards the back end of the summer, but equally it depends what happens to fuel prices.

To manage its exposure to rising energy costs, the budget carrier has implemented a robust hedging strategy. As of early 2026, the company reported that it had hedged 84% of its fuel requirements for the first half of the year at an average cost of $715 per metric ton. Looking further ahead, easyJet has secured 62% of its fuel needs for the second half of 2026 at $688 per metric ton and 43% for the first half of 2027 at a rate of $671 per metric ton.
