Democrats Urge CFTC to Probe Suspicious Oil Market Trades
Senators Elizabeth Warren and Sheldon Whitehouse urged the CFTC to probe oil trades linked to White House moves. This follows similar calls for investigations.
Two Democratic senators from the United States have called for a federal investigation into what they describe as suspicious trading activity in the oil markets. Senators Elizabeth Warren and Sheldon Whitehouse addressed their concerns to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), pointing to lucrative trades that coincided with major geopolitical developments.
According to a letter released Friday, the senators highlighted unusually large positions taken in commodities such as West Texas Oil and Brent Crude Oil. These trades occurred shortly before significant White House decisions involving Iran and Venezuela, as well as the announcement of new trade tariffs.
