US Lawmakers Probe JetBlue Over Personal Data Pricing
Two lawmakers asked JetBlue if personal data influences ticket prices. The inquiry follows a social media post that the airline later claimed was a mistake.
Lawmakers in the United States have formally requested information from JETBLUE AIRWAYS CORP regarding its ticket pricing strategies. The inquiry follows a social media post from the airline that suggested customer personal data might influence the cost of flights.
Representative Greg Casar and Senator Ruben Gallego issued the request on Tuesday, seeking clarity on how the carrier defines personal data and whether such information is used to determine individual ticket prices. The lawmakers noted that while the company later claimed the post was an error, the incident highlighted potential transparency issues in the aviation industry.

JetBlue previously informed Reuters that the social media response to a customer was made in error. However, the Democratic lawmakers maintained that the situation warrants further investigation into how the airline sets its fares.
The post still raises questions about how JetBlue sets prices — specifically, how JetBlue is defining personal data and whether personal data is used in any capacity to inform prices.
