Citigroup profit declines as Russia unit sale and reorganization costs offset gains in investment banking

Citigroup reported a 13 percent profit decline to 2.47 billion dollars due to its Russia exit. Strong investment banking fees failed to meet internal targets.

Citigroup Inc. reported that its fourth-quarter 2025 profit dropped 13 percent to 2.47 billion dollars, or 1.19 dollars per share. This performance, compared to 2.9 billion dollars a year earlier, was primarily influenced by a 1.2 billion dollar pre-tax loss linked to the sale of its subsidiary in Russia RURU. The bank booked the loss, largely related to currency translation, after the board approved the divestiture of AO Citibank to Renaissance Capital in December.
