Chinese solar firms post mixed results amid Iran conflict
JinkoSolar and Trina reported narrowing losses as the Iran war boosts overseas interest. However, a 20% drop in Chinese demand weighs on the sector's outlook.
JinkoSolar Holding Co-ADR and Trina Solar Co Ltd-A cut first-quarter losses by over 60% as energy security concerns drove overseas demand. Geopolitical conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran pushed Brent Crude Oil and Natural Gas prices higher. While war-induced demand supports exports, a 20% contraction in China threatens to extend the industry's overcapacity crisis.
### Energy Crisis Offsets Shipping Disruptions JinkoSolar narrowed its net loss to 463 million yuan ($67.2 million) in the first quarter of 2026, down from 1.32 billion yuan a year earlier. Trina Solar losses declined to 234 million yuan from 1.61 billion yuan, supported by its energy storage business. JinkoSolar chairman Li Xiande told a results briefing late Wednesday that conflict in the Middle East has increased the global focus on energy security.
