China Rare Earth Magnet Exports Rise as US Shipments Fall
Chinese rare earth magnet exports grew 8.2 percent in early 2026 despite a 22.5 percent drop in U.S. shipments. Germany and South Korea remain lead buyers.
China reported an 8.2% increase in rare-earth magnet exports during the first two months of 2026, according to customs data released on Friday. Total shipments from the world's leading producer reached 10,763 metric tons between January and February. These magnets are critical components in various industries, ranging from consumer electronics and automotive manufacturing to high-tech defense systems.
The primary destinations for these exports during the period included Germany, South Korea, the United States, Vietnam, and France. Shipments to the United States fell by 22.5% year-on-year, totaling 994 tons. This decline comes amid shifting diplomatic schedules, as the White House recently confirmed a delay in President Donald Trump's planned visit to meet with President Xi Jinping.
