### Energy Shocks Drive Factory-Gate Inflation The producer price index (PPI) rose 3.9% from a year earlier, according to National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) data released Wednesday. The NBS attributed the surge to rising commodity prices and improved demand in specific industrial sectors. On a monthly basis, PPI increased 0.5% in May compared to a 1.7% rise in April.
