China bans Philippine pig imports over swine fever
The General Administration of Customs in China has officially banned the import of pigs and wild boars from the Philippines. This trade restriction also applies to related products and was implemented in response to concerns over swine fever.
China banned all imports of pigs, wild boar, and related products from the Philippines effective May 19. The move follows a confirmed outbreak of African swine fever in the Southeast Asian nation. The ban restricts pork trade in a regional market already affected by disease concerns.
The General Administration of Customs released a statement confirming the immediate suspension of all porcine imports from the Philippines. This restriction includes live animals and processed products to prevent the spread of African swine fever into Chinese herds.
