Chery Targets 2027 Start for South Africa Car Production
Chery plans to start production at its new South African plant by late 2027. The facility will manufacture electric and fuel-powered vehicles for export sales.

The Chinese automaker Chery Automobile Co., Ltd. has announced plans to commence production at a newly acquired manufacturing plant in South Africa by the end of 2027. The facility, located in Rosslyn, was purchased from Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. and will undergo an extensive retrofitting process over the next 12 to 18 months. Charlie Zhang, Executive Vice President of Chery International, confirmed the timeline and noted that the plant will be capable of producing both internal combustion and electrified vehicles.
We will try to modify the plant at full speed and we hope that by probably the end of 2027 were going to start the SOP.
