ByteDance Deploys Nvidia Blackwell AI Chips in Malaysia
ByteDance is deploying 36,000 Nvidia Blackwell chips in Malaysia via Aolani Cloud. This move secures high-end AI computing power outside of mainland China.
The parent company of TikTok, ByteDance, is reportedly securing significant artificial intelligence computing power by acquiring high-end hardware from NVIDIA Corporation for use in facilities located outside of China. This move highlights the company's strategy to bolster its technological infrastructure amid evolving global trade dynamics and semiconductor export restrictions. According to reports from the Wall Street Journal, ByteDance is collaborating with a Southeast Asian firm, Aolani Cloud, to establish a major computing hub in Malaysia. The project involves the deployment of approximately 500 Nvidia Blackwell computing systems. These systems are expected to house roughly 36,000 B200 chips, providing the massive processing power required for advanced AI model training and operations. The initiative represents a significant investment in high-performance computing as ByteDance seeks to maintain its competitive edge in the global AI race. By situating these advanced Blackwell systems in Southeast Asia, the company can access cutting-edge hardware that might otherwise be subject to stringent export controls if imported directly into its home market.
