BYD Snaps Eight-Month Sales Decline with Export Growth
BYD global sales rose 0.3 percent in May to end an eight-month streak of declines. Strong overseas demand offset a 24 percent drop in Chinese domestic sales.
BYD CO LTD grew global vehicle sales 0.3% to 383,453 units in May, ending an eight-month streak of consecutive declines that had persisted since July 2025. The recovery comes as surging exports to Europe and emerging markets offset a 24% slump in domestic demand. The data highlights how international growth is offsetting a bruising price war eroding margins in China.
### Overseas Demand Offsets Domestic Weakness Global production at the automaker rose 8.8% year-on-year in May, its first increase since July 2025. While domestic sales shrank for the 13th straight month, overseas shipments jumped 80.4% to 160,644 units. Stronger demand for EVs in Europe followed higher oil prices linked to conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.
