Brazil Fuel Oil Influx Eases Southeast Asia Supply Fears
Brazilian fuel oil imports to Southeast Asia doubled in March to record levels. The surge helped stabilize marine fuel prices following Middle East disruptions.
Fuel oil imports from Brazil to Southeast Asia surged in March, providing a necessary buffer against supply disruptions in the Middle East. According to shipping data, the influx of South American fuel has eased market anxieties regarding marine fuel availability, which had tightened following geopolitical tensions involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.
Data from analytics firms Kpler and Vortexa show that imports from the South American nation more than doubled last month compared to February. These shipments were primarily destined for Singapore, the world’s leading ship refueling hub, and Malaysia. Kpler estimated the volume at an all-time high of approximately 1 million metric tons, or 205,000 barrels per day, while Vortexa placed the figure at a one-year high of nearly 800,000 tons.
