BP names heads for two main business units after revamp
BP appointed Gordon Birrell and Richard Harding to lead its new business units. The restructuring aims to reduce complexity and refocus on core oil and gas operations while scaling back renewable investments.
BP PLC appointed Gordon Birrell to lead its upstream unit and Richard Harding as interim downstream head on Tuesday midday. The leadership changes follow the dismissal of former chairman Albert Manifold last month and aim to streamline operations into two core segments. Investors are monitoring the restructuring as the firm seeks to reduce costs and debt while refocusing on fossil fuel assets.
CEO Meg O'Neill said the restructuring aims to reduce complexity across the organization. Birrell, a company veteran, previously managed production and operations, while Harding replaces former executive Emma Delaney.
