Blik expands in Romania and Slovakia for euro zone growth

Polish mobile payment system Blik will integrate with three Romanian banks this year as it targets euro zone expansion. The company views Slovakia as a strategic hub to enter further markets including Austria and Hungary.

洞察:

Polski Standard Platnosci (PSP) expects at least three major Romanian banks to begin integrating its Blik mobile payment technology later this year. This expansion follows a record year where Blik processed 2.9 billion transactions and reached 20.7 million active users in Poland. PSP aims to secure regional market share to prevent United States technology giants from dominating the European payments landscape.

### Scaling Beyond the Polish Market Blik is currently the most popular mobile payment system in Poland, jointly owned by major banks including PKO BP, mBank, ING BSK, and Erste Bank Polska. PSP CEO Dariusz Mazurkiewicz said on Monday that integration for Romanian banks typically requires several months to a year and a half.
