BHP reports 3% rise in third-quarter iron ore output
BHP iron ore output rose 3% to 69.8 million tons in the March quarter. Strong Western Australia results beat estimates and offset impacts from two tropical cyclones.
BHP GROUP LTD reported on Wednesday that its iron ore production for the third quarter increased by 3%, as strong performance at its operations in Australia helped the company overcome weather-related challenges. The world's largest listed miner announced that output from its Western Australia mine operations reached 69.8 million metric tons on a 100% basis for the quarter ended March 31, representing an increase from the 67.8 million tons recorded in the same period last year. This production figure also exceeded the 68.9 million tons projected by analysts at Visible Alpha. The growth in output was achieved despite disruptions caused by two tropical cyclones during the quarter. BHP noted that the robust performance of its core Western Australian assets was sufficient to outweigh these environmental factors and maintain production momentum.
