Bank of Ningbo Prepares for Digital Yuan Integration
Bank of Ningbo is seeking suppliers for its digital yuan system as China prepares to license more banks. The PBOC aims to broaden use of its digital currency.
China is signaling a significant expansion of its sovereign digital currency as the Bank of Ningbo begins soliciting suppliers to develop a dedicated e-CNY system. This move suggests that the People's Bank of China (PBOC) is preparing to grant additional licenses to broaden the practical application of the digital yuan across the domestic financial sector.
Reports from local media outlet Caixin indicate that the PBOC may soon authorize 12 more financial institutions to facilitate e-CNY transactions. This would represent a substantial increase from the current group of 10 licensed banks, which includes major state-owned entities such as Bank of China Limited and CHINA CONSTRUCTION BANK-H.
