Bank of England expected to hold rates at 3.75 percent
A Reuters poll shows most economists expect the Bank of England to hold rates at 3.75 percent this year despite rising energy prices and inflation forecasts. While a growing minority predicts hikes due to geopolitical tensions, others suggest tighter financial conditions may reduce the need for further action.
The Bank of England (BoE) will maintain interest rates at 3.75% through the end of the year despite rising energy costs. A Reuters poll of 56 economists shows a growing minority now expects at least one hike as geopolitical tensions fuel inflation. Investors face a shift in sentiment as markets price in two rate increases to combat price pressures.
### Inflation Risks Challenge Rate Stability The United Kingdom saw inflation jump to 3.3% in March, with forecasts now peaking at 3.6% in the fourth quarter. This level is nearly double the 2.0% target set by the BoE. While the central bank signaled last month that forceful increases remain possible, Governor Andrew Bailey told Reuters that investors should not necessarily expect hikes.
