Bangladesh eyes 2 billion dollars to secure energy supply
Dhaka is seeking over 2 billion dollars from international lenders to fund fuel and LNG imports. The move aims to stabilize the economy and prevent price hikes.
Bangladesh is seeking more than $2 billion in fresh external funding to mitigate a growing energy crisis involving fuel and liquefied natural gas (LNG). The new government, led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, is moving to stabilize the national economy as global energy markets react to the conflict involving Iran. With the country relying on imports for 95% of its energy needs, state agencies have faced increasing pressure to secure supplies amidst price volatility.
Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, the Prime Minister’s adviser on finance and planning, confirmed that Dhaka is in discussions with major development lenders, including the World Bank, the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, and the International Islamic Trade Finance Corporation.
