Australian Jobless Rate Holds at 4.3 Percent in March
Net employment in Australia rose by 17,900 in March while the jobless rate held at 4.3 percent. Full-time roles saw a significant gain of 52,500 positions.
Australia maintained a resilient labor market in March as employment figures aligned with expectations and the jobless rate remained low. However, emerging risks from the conflict involving Iran and a potential global energy shock are beginning to cloud the economic outlook. Data released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics on Thursday showed that net employment rose by 17,900 in March, following a significant revised gain of 49,600 in February. The result was largely consistent with market forecasts of a 20,000-job increase.
The underlying details of the report were particularly strong, with full-time employment jumping by 52,500 positions after a sharp decline in the previous month. While the unemployment rate held steady at 4.3%, the participation rate dipped slightly to 66.8% from 66.9%. Total hours worked also saw a solid increase of 0.5%, indicating that labor demand remains firm for the time being.
