Asia Stocks Mixed as US Iran Deadlock Lifts Oil Prices
Asian shares show mixed results today as investors weigh a fragile Middle East ceasefire against stalled peace talks. Oil prices rose as tensions persist.
Financial markets in Singapore and across the broader Asia-Pacific region displayed a fragmented performance on Friday as geopolitical tensions in the Middle East continued to weigh on investor sentiment. While a fragile ceasefire persists, a diplomatic deadlock between the United States and Iran has kept risk appetite low and energy prices elevated.
In equity markets, the MSCI broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan managed a modest 0.3% gain, positioning it for a weekly rise of 0.8%. Performance varied significantly by geography; the Nikkei index in Tokyo climbed 0.45%, but markets in South Korea, China, and Hong Kong all trended lower. Western futures showed similar divergence, with Nasdaq and S&P 500 contracts edging higher while European and British futures signaled a weaker open.
