Asia Stocks Face Weekly Drop as Oil Prices Surge on War
Asian markets face their worst weekly drop in years as the Middle East conflict drives oil prices higher. Investors seek cash and brace for higher global rates.
Global financial markets are experiencing significant turbulence as the conflict in the Middle East shows no signs of abating, prompting a flight to safety among investors. In Singapore, analysts observed that Asian equity markets are currently facing their most severe weekly decline in six years, while energy prices continue their upward trajectory. The escalating tensions involving the United States, Israel, and Iran have led market participants to brace for a prolonged period of geopolitical instability. This environment is further complicated by the prospect of renewed inflation driven by high energy costs.
"The range of plausible outcomes has expanded to include both the possibility of an exceptionally constructive resolution and a highly destructive one," said Daleep Singh, chief global economist at PGIM Fixed Income.
