Applied Materials, Inc. has announced strategic partnerships with major memory chip manufacturers Micron Technology, Inc. and SK hynix Inc. to accelerate the development of next-generation semiconductors. These components are essential for the evolving demands of artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing. Both Micron and SK hynix will serve as founding partners at the new Equipment and Process Innovation and Commercialization (EPIC) Center. The EPIC Center represents a significant commitment to semiconductor research and development, with a planned investment of $5 billion. This capital expenditure is expected to scale as customer projects commence at the facility. This figure marks an increase from the $4 billion previously estimated by the company in 2023.
