Anthropic opens Milan office and plans hiring expansion
The U.S. AI startup Anthropic has opened its sixth European office in Milan as part of a strategy to triple its international headcount. The company aims to meet rising demand for its Claude models while engaging with regional policymakers on AI ethics and safety standards.
Anthropic will triple its international workforce and expand its European footprint after opening a new office in Milan on Thursday. The U.S.-based AI startup is scaling operations to meet rising demand for its Claude large language models outside its home market. The expansion comes as European companies race to deploy AI systems to boost productivity.
### Scaling the European Footprint The Milan office marks the sixth European location for Anthropic, joining existing bases in Dublin, Zurich, Munich, Paris, and London. Chris Ciauri, managing director for international at Anthropic, said the London office currently employs 200 staff but is expected to grow to 800. Ciauri noted that Milan, Paris, and Munich will also see headcount increases to support the broader international hiring target.
