Alibaba Launches New Zhenwu M890 AI Chip for Agents
Alibaba Group has launched the Zhenwu M890 processor to provide a domestic alternative to restricted U.S. chips. The new hardware delivers three times the performance of its predecessor and is specifically designed to handle complex AI agent workloads for Chinese enterprise customers.
ALIBABA GROUP HOLDING LTD unveiled the Zhenwu M890 AI chip on May 20 to provide domestic alternatives to processors from NVIDIA CORP. The new silicon delivers three times the performance of the previous Zhenwu 810E model. This launch signals the intent of China to maintain AI momentum despite export restrictions imposed by the United States.
### Targeting the AI Agent Market The M890 is purpose-built for AI agents, which are software systems capable of executing multi-step tasks with minimal human oversight. Alibaba Cloud executives said the processor handles the high memory and communication demands required for models to retain long context windows. T-Head, the semiconductor subsidiary of Alibaba, developed the chip to coordinate multiple models in real time.
