Global Carriers Raise Ticket Prices as Fuel Costs Surge
Airlines are raising fares and baggage fees as jet fuel costs approach 200 dollars per barrel. Many carriers are also cutting flights and revising forecasts.
The global aviation sector is facing a severe financial challenge as jet fuel prices skyrocket following the outbreak of conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran. Prices for jet fuel have surged from a range of $85 to $90 per barrel to between $150 and $200 per barrel in recent weeks, a development that has significantly impacted the pricing of Brent Crude Oil and forced carriers to overhaul their financial outlooks.
In Europe, AEGEAN AIRLINES in Greece warned that the suspension of Middle East flights and fuel volatility would weigh heavily on its first-quarter results. AIR FRANCE-KLM announced plans to increase long-haul ticket prices by up to 50 euros per round trip to mitigate costs. Meanwhile, EASYJET PLC in the United Kingdom signaled that travelers should prepare for price hikes later this year.
