The African Development Bank will inject 125 million dollars into African Trade and Investment Development Insurance to become its largest shareholder. This move aims to increase annual guarantees to 10 billion dollars to attract private capital and bridge the regional development financing gap.
The African Development Bank (AfDB) will inject $125 million into African Trade and Investment Development Insurance (ATIDI) to become its largest shareholder. The move increases AfDB’s stake from 3% to 14% to scale investment guarantees across the continent. This shift aims to mobilize private capital to bridge a $400 billion annual development financing gap.
### Scaling Guarantees to Unlock Infrastructure AfDB President Sidi Ould Tah said the investment seeks to raise ATIDI’s annual guarantee capacity to $10 billion. The agency previously covered an average of $3 billion in annual investments. This expansion targets $4 trillion in fragmented African institutional capital, including pension funds and sovereign wealth schemes.
